不幸を避ける preventable misfortunes and unavoidable misfortunes

賢い人間は -防げる不幸を座視することはしないが- 避けられない不幸に時間と感情を浪費することもしないだろう。またそれ自体避けられる不幸でさえ,もしそれを避けるために必要な時間と労力が何らかのより重要な目的の追求の妨げになるようであれば進んでその不幸を甘受するだろう。
The wise man, though he will not sit down under preventable misfortunes, will not waste time and emotion upon such as are unavoidable, and even such as are in themselves avoidable he will submit to if the time and labour required to avoid them would interfere with the pursuit of some more important object.
