しかし,非常に’特殊化された興味’は,人生に対する一般的な熱意ほどには幸福の満足すべき源泉にならない。なぜなら,そういった興味で,ある人の時間のすべてを満たすことは可能ではなく,また,彼の趣味となった特定の事柄について知るべきことはすべて知り尽くしてしまう,という危険が常にあるからである。
Very specialised interests are, however, a less satisfactory source of happiness than a general zest for life, since they can hardly fill the whole of a man’s time, and there is always the danger that he may come to know all there is to know about the particular matter that has become his hobby.
