　’中庸’（ちゅうよう）(or 中庸の徳)は,面白くない教義（信条）であり,私は,若い時には’中庸’を軽蔑と憤りをもって退けたことを覚えている。なぜかというと,その当時,私が賛美したのは’英雄的な極端’（過激さ）であったからである。
The golden mean is an uninteresting doctrine, and I can remember when I was young rejecting it with scorn and indignation, since in those days it was heroic extremes that I admired.
