【"volume"。単に量のことを言い、大小の先入観なし。"volume"も"bulk"も,"size"という一般語で代表させることができる。】
【"bulk"：bulk"にはそれ自身にサイズが大きいという意味がある。また、"the bulk of"または"the great bulk of"はある物事の大きな部分を言う。】
【"mass"：同種のものの堆積で重量感を伴い、量感も抽象性が高い。】

(1) The volume [size] of traffic in the rush hours is nearly 5 times that of the afternoon.

＜用例１＞
Suppose, for example, that one volume is greater than another. One may reduce the relation 'greater than' between the volumes to adjectives of the volumes, by saying that one is of such and such a size and the other of such and such another size.
[たとえば、ある量（体積）が別の量（体積）よりも大（きい）としてみよう。これら二つの量（体積）の間の「より大きい」という関係を、－－　一方を"これこれの大きさの"（ものであり）､もう一方を"これこれの大きさの"（ものである）と言うことによって－－それぞれの量（体積）についての形容詞的規定に還元しようするかもしれない。]
