【"rational"："reasonable"よりもずっと論理性を持っていることを示す言葉。】

(1-1) He is a reasonable man, he would know how to act at a time like this.
[彼は常識人だ。こういう時にどうするかは心得ている。]

(1-2) It has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty of the charges made against him.
[被告が起訴されていた罪を犯していたことが、合理的疑いの余地なきまでに立証された。]
* "beyond reasonable doubt"は、英米の法廷で裁判官が有罪の判決を下す時に被告に対して申し渡す決まり文句（人間の理性の及ぶかぎり疑いの余地なし）。

(2-1) We are rational but animal too.
[我々人間は理性で行動するが動物的一面も持っている。]

(2-2) The question was raised if the accused was rational enough to stand trial.
[被告は裁判に臨み得るだけの正気を持っているかどうかという疑問が出された。]
