【"personality"：知性、道徳、行為などの全てを感情にいれたトータルな人柄のことを言うが、実際にはその人間の感情的なアピール（感じ）のほうに焦点がある。また、"personality"は「感じが良い人」という意味以外に「有名人・名士」の意味にも使う。】
【"character"：知性や感情を抜きにしたその人の道徳的な力強さを意味する言葉。"personality"と対象的に"character"を（「意気」「気概」の意味で）使う場合には冠詞を付けてはいけない。】
(1) All local personalities were present at the opening ceremony.
[開会式には地元の名士がずらりと顔をそろえた。]
(1/2) He has character but no personality.
[彼はしっかりしているが、人好きのするほうじゃない。]
(2) He has not character enough to reproach me.
[彼は私を叱るべきなのにその気概もない。]
