【"gather"：「集める」「集まる」意味で最も一般的に使われる言葉で，方々に散らばっているものをかき集める行為そのものに焦点がある。】
【"collect"：ただ数だけでなく，何らかの目的をもって（選択して）ものをあつめる意味を持っており、内容を意識する言葉。】
【"assemble"：目的意識が"collect"よりも強い言葉であり、"gather"や"collect"にはない用法として、"assemble"には、部分品を集めて機械を作ったり、集会を催したりする意味で使われる。】

(1) Girls are gathering wild flowers.
[娘たちは野の花を積んでいる。]

(2-1) He collects stamps.
[彼は切手を収集している。]

(2-2) You have quite a collection of people at your office.
[あなたの会社にはいろいろな人がいますね。（注：このように「a "collection" of people 」は単なる人の集まりではないこと（十人十色）を示している。）]
