【"cinema"：もともとはイギリス英語であったが，現在では映画の総称として一般的に使われる。「映画劇場」意味で使われることもあり，その場合、"cinemas"と，複数にもなる。】
【"movies"：アメリカでよく使われる庶民的な言葉。】
【"motion picture"：米語。picture は常に単数形で使用する。】
【"pictures"：英国において "the pictures"や"picture show"がよく使われる。】
【"film"：映画関係者やジャーナリストがよく使うが、一般の人が使うとやや気取ったひびきを持つ。"film"は個々の映画のことも，媒体としての映画のことも指すが、後者の意味の場合の時には冠詞をつけない。】
【"flicks"：くだけた用語で、第二次世界大戦後に使われるようになった。】
