【"animal"：ラテン語の "anima" に由来する言葉で､"breath"（息）とか "soul"（魂）の意。また、「動物的」という場合も通常，貶す意味を含んでいない。ちなみに，"animate" は物に生命を与えて生き生きとさせることで，動画 "animation" もこれからくる。】
【"beast"：「けだもの」というがごとく、卑しめる意味を含む言葉】
【"creature"：人間を含め，造物主（創造神）の手になる生物（植物を除く）全てを指す。】
