【"purpose"：ある目的に向かって（計画的に）精進する決意を含んだ言葉で、次の２種類がある。1)目的に達することが容易でないという認識の上に立って、どうやってその目的を達するかという説明を意図する場合。2)行動の目的を他のものと区別してはっきりさせたい場合。】
【"object"："purpose"のように道徳性や抽象性は少なく、名詞にすると「努力を傾注する目的物」となる。】

(1-1) One works better and with more zeal when the purpose of his work is clear to him.
[人は自分のする仕事の目的がはっきりしている場合の方が効果的に熱心に働く。]

(1-2) It is the purpose of this essay to inform rather than to entertain.
