【"ache":"pain"よりも痛みの種類あるいは幅が広く,激しい痛みもあれば,鈍痛もあり,かつ、かなり持続的なものに使う(例:headache, toothache; stomachache; bellyache)】
【"pain":通常は,急に襲ってくる鋭い痛み/身体的な痛みを比喩化して,心の痛みなどに用いることが多いが,その場合は複数形("pains")にして使う場合が多い。】

(1) I suffer from a chronic backache.
[慢性の(chronic)腰痛に悩んでいる。]

(2) Her pain, which had been merely a dull ache at first, got suddenly like a blade being driven into her wound.
