Or to take a very different example, a man may, like the hero of Shaw's Doctor's Dilemma, be morally contemptible in all respects except where his artistic conscience is involved, but in this one matter may be capable of very painful sacrifices. I am not prepared to maintain that to all men there are some acts that are felt as "sin"; I am willing to believe that there are human beings who are utterly shameless. But I am convinced that they are few, and that they are not to be found among those who most loudly proclaim their own emancipation from moral scruples.

「いやそれは甘い！ まったく罪の意識や恥ずかしいという感情をもたない人間がいる」と主張する人がいそうです。しかし、その場合は、法律や教育や説得の問題や対象ではなく、病気（肉体的な病ではなく、精神的な病）なので、治療の対象となるとラッセルは考えます。（注："Shaw's Doctor's Dilemma" は「博士のジレンマ」ではなく、「医師としてのジレンマ」です。ショーは、この戯曲作品のなかで、主人公である医師が、貧しい患者に対する医療と、富裕な患者に対する医療の違いに直面するというテーマを扱っています。）
なお、「 I am willing to believe that there are human beings who are utterly shameless.」の訳し方には注意が必要です。試しに、DeepL や Google 翻訳にかけると「私は、まったく恥知らずな人間がいることを”信じたい”。」と訳してしまいます。
"willing to"は「意欲的な意思」なのか、「消極的な意思」なのか、文脈をよく考える必要があります。前者であれば、「進んで～する（信じたい）」「前向きである」と訳すことになりますが、後者の場合は、「（条件付きだが）～しても構わないだろう」といったニュアンスになります。ラッセルのこの一文はのニュアンスは「私は全く恥知らずな人も存在していることを信じてもいいと思う。」くらいでしょうか？
それから、「(his) artistic conscience」を DeepL も Google 翻訳もChatGPT も、「芸術的良心」と訳してしまいます。この戯曲の主人公の医者の「芸術的良心」とは何でしょうか？（苦笑） ここは、「医者の技量上の良心」とでも訳すところだと思われます。
