Going backward, it takes you to the eye, and thence to a photon and thence to a quantum transition in some distant object. The context of the visual sensation for psychology is quite different. Suppose, for example, the visual sensation is that of a telegram saying that you are ruined. A number of events will take place in your mind in accordance with the laws of psychological causation, and it may be quite a long time before there is any purely physical effect, such as tearing your hair, or exclaiming "Woe is me!"

外界から刺激を受けてその情報を脳で処理する時の微細な電流（パルス）の流れや（脳細胞間での）メッセージ物質の発射・受取の様子を電子顕微鏡やMRIなどで見ると、ラッセルの言うことが実感できるのではないか？
NHKの人体シリーズの「脳」を見た方は同意見だろうと思われるが、問題はそれでは終わらない。自然科学は客観的だと言っても、つきつめれば、そういった（正確だとされる）情報やデータも、間違いやすい個々人が処理したものだということをよく考える必要がある。
