★ honorable / (英) honourable (p.113)
　外交問題などによく出てくる言葉であり、「名誉ある」と訳することによってよく誤解の種になる。・・・。 honorable の日本語は元来「公明正大な」とか「恥ずかしからぬ」であって、何も進んで名誉を得ることではない。動詞にすれば honor だが、これも単に「名誉を与える」とだけ理解していると間違えやすい。・・・。金銭のとりひきに使われる場合には、「間違いなしと認める」つまり、「支払う」ことである。その反対は dis-honored。

-1. I am sure he is honorable.（あの人は絶対に曲がったことなどする人ではない（信用できる人だ）。）

-2. The check was dis-honored.（小切手が不渡りになった。）

　Ｒ英単語・熟語集の用例とはできるだけ重複しないようにしますが、用例が少ない場合はどうしても重複してしまいます。あしからず。
