どこの国でも、自分たちよりも「劣等」だと見なす国民や（自国内の）人々（黒人、インディアン、クルド人、ユダヤ人、アイヌ、被差別部落の人々等々）を過去ひどく扱っていましたが、時代が進むにつれてそんなことはなかっただろうと思う人が増えていきます。
たとえば、今では黒人の売買（家畜に準じた扱い）は信じられませんが、奴隷売買がさかんな時には、（軍事力のある国々の）多くの人々はそれをひどいことだとは思っていませんでした。
