・・・。知識を授けている時,私も息子も恐怖を感じていなかった。このことは,教育上非常に重要であると考える。危険に対する合理的な理解は必要である。（しかし）恐怖心は必要ではない。子供は,恐怖の要素がいくらかないと危険を把握することができない。しかし,教える側にこの要素が存在しない場合は,恐怖心という要素を大幅に減らすことができる。子供の世話をしている大人は,決して恐怖心を感じてはいけない。女性も,男性と同様に勇気を養わなければいけない一つの理由は,ここにある。
... Neither of us was feeling fear when the instruction was given. I regard this as very important in education. Rational apprehension of dangers is necessary ; fear is not. A child cannot apprehend dangers without some element of fear, but this element is very much diminished when it is not present in the instructor. A grown-up person in charge of a child should never feel fear. That is one reason why courage should be cultivated in women just as much as in men.

容易に恐怖心を持ちがちな人間（国民など）は御しやすい。自分の立場（や立場）があぶなくなったら、配下の者ども（や国民）に恐怖心を与え、自分（たち）に助けを求めるように誘導すればよい。
