人間の運命の諸問題や，人類の苦悩を減らしたいという欲求や，将来我々の種（人類）は最適の可能性を実現するだろうという希望,を深く感じる人は、− その人は伝統的なキリスト教をほとんど受け入れないとしても− 今日，宗教的な物の見方を持っている（身につけている）としばしば言われる。宗教は一連（一組）の信仰個条にあるというよりも一定の感じ方にある限り，科学は宗教に触れる(touch 動かす)ことはできない。
The man who feels deeply the problems of human destiny, the desire to diminish the sufferings of mankind, and the hope that the future will realize the best possibilities of our species, is nowadays often said to have a religious outlook, however little he may accept of traditional Christianity. In so far as religion consists in a way of feeling, rather than in a set of beliefs, science cannot touch it.
