ひとつには紳士気取りのために，またひとつには，結婚すればすぐに子供を持つようにしなければならないという思い込みのために，男性が若くして結婚することは困難である。さらに，離婚（結婚の解消）が非常に困難な場合には，早婚には大きな危険がある。なぜなら，20歳でしっくりいっている二人の人間が，30歳ではしっくりいかなくなる，ということは大いにありそうなことだからである。一人の配偶者(パートナー)との安定した関係は，多くの人びとにとって，種々の経験を多少積まないうちは困難である。
