権威主義的な教育の弊害
即ち,自分の父親から苦しめられたことを自分の息子に課したり,パブリック・スクールで耐え忍んできた屈辱を忘れずにそれを自分が大英帝国の建設者(の一員)となった時に(植民地の)原住民に屈辱を転嫁したりする。こうして,不当な権威主義的な教育は,生徒を臆病な暴君にさせ,言行における独創性を自分で主張できなくさせたり,他人の独創性を許すことをできなくさせたりする。(出典： ラッセル『怠惰への讃歌』第12章「教育と訓練」
What a man has suffered from his father he inflicts upon his son, and the humiliations which he remembers having endured at his public school he passes on to 'natives' when he becomes an empire-builder. Thus an unduly authoritative education turns the pupils into timid tyrants, incapable of either claiming or tolerating originality in word or deed.
