日本語で「ギャラ」は"guarantee"（保証）の略ですが、"guar"は「覆う」の意味で、印欧祖語の"wer"に遡ります。
「ギャランティー（guaranty)」は名詞で「保証（人）」の意味です。商品の品質の保証（書）は"warranty" です。
印欧祖語の"wer"は"ver"にも変化します。「覆う、カバー（する」の"cover"は「co（完全に）＋ ver（覆う）」が語源です。"discover"は「dis + cover」で「覆いをはずす」から「発見する」となります。

* garment : 覆うもの → 一点の「衣服」（複数形の"garments"は「衣類、着物」
