★ spurious いいかげんな；非嫡出子の (pp.220-221)
　はげしい批判語。"spurious"はラテン語で"bastard"（庶子、私生児）からきているが、今では illegitimacy（非合法）の文字通りの意味にはあまり用いられない。相手を騙す意思あるかないかにかかわらず、本物らしく見えるが、無価値な、偽物ということに使う。

*1 He made spurious campaign promises to get elected.（彼は自分に投票してもらおうとして、いいかげんな公約をした。

*2 His thesis is entirely spurious.（彼の論拠は薄弱で精密な検査に耐えるものではない。）

*3 Invalid assumptions will lead to spurious (or invalid) conclusions.（いいかげんな（根拠のない）仮定はいいかげんな結論を招く。）

　Ｒ英単語・熟語集の用例とはできるだけ重複しないようにしますが、用例が少ない場合はどうしても重複してしまいます。あしからず。
