第7章 革命的な権力 n.20 - 政治的権力と経済的権力の融合（四) ロシア革命世界史上におけるロシア革命の重要性について判断を行うことは，まだ時期尚早である（注：『権力論』を出版した1938年の時点）。（即ち，）我々は，いまだ，そのいくつかの面について述べることができるのみである。初期キリスト教と同様に，ロシア革命は，国際的かつ反国家的でさえある主義（理論）を説く（重要な理論として唱導する）。（即ち）イスラム教と似ている。しかし，キリスト教とは異なり，ロシア革命は本質的に政治的なものである。けれども，ロシア革命の信条で，今日までのところで，効力があることのわかった唯一の部分は，自由主義に対する挑戦だけである。1917年11月（の革命）まで，自由主義と戦ってきたのは反動主義者(保守反動家)だけであった。（即ち，）マルキストも，他の進歩主義者と同様，民主主義や，言論の自由，報道の自由，及びその他の自由主義的政治機構を擁護した。（しかし）ソヴィエト政府は，権力を掌握すると，全盛時のカトリック教会の教えに戻った。即ち，積極的な教育によって，と同時に，敵対する理論（主義）を抑圧することによって，「真理」を宣伝することは「権力」（ロシア革命政府）のなすべき仕事であるという教え（＝カトリック教会の教え）に戻った（のである）。これには，当然のこと，非民主的な独裁制の樹立が伴い，その体制の安定は「赤軍」に依存していた。（ロシア革命において）新しかったものは，政治的権力と経済的権力の融合であり，それによって政府による統制を非常に増大させることができた（のである）。 |
Chapter VII: Revolutionary Power, n.20IV. The Russian Revolution.Of the importance of the Russian Revolution in the history of the world, it is as yet too soon to judge; we can only speak, as yet, of some of its aspects. Like early Christianity, it preaches doctrines which are international and even anti-national; like Islam, but unlike Christianity, it is essentially political. The only part of its creed, however, which, so far, has proved effective, is the challenge to Liberalism. Until November 1917, Liberalism had only been combated by reactionaries ; Marxists, like other progressives, advocated democracy, free speech, free press, and the rest of the Liberal political apparatus. The Soviet Government, when it seized power, reverted to the teaching of the Catholic Church in its great days: that it is the business of Authority to propagate Truth, both by positive teaching and by the suppression of all rival doctrines. This involved, of course, the establishment of an undemocratic dictatorship, depending for its stability upon the Red Army. What was new was the amalgamation of political and economic power, which made possible an enormous increase of governmental control. |
