 ラッセルの哲学(基本的な考え方)は一貫しているとも、多くの変遷をしているとも、どちらとも言える。ラッセルは、生涯、理性や知性に信頼を起き続けたが、徹底的に論理を追求していく過程で、人間の知性や論理的思考能力の限界をも実感するようになった。
 ラッセルが嫌うのは,神秘主義に陥り、思考を停止したり、知性を軽んずることである。
