哲学にとって、相対性理論に関して最も重要なことは、一つの宇宙時間と一つの永続的な空間が廃止され、両者の代わりに時=空（space-time）が置かれたことである。この変化は、物理的世界の構造に関する我々の概念を根本的に変えるものであり、心理学にも影響を与えるものであるため、非常に重要である。現代では、この問題を説明せずに哲学を語ることは無用（役に立たない/無益）であろう。
For philosophy, far the most important thing about the theory of relativity is the abolition of the one cosmic time and one persistent space, and the substitution of space-time in place of both. This is a change of quite enormous importance, because it alters fundamentally our notion of the structure of the physical world, and has, I think, repercussions in psychology. It would be useless, in our day, to talk about philosophy without explaining this matter.
