啓発された世論が良いと考えることを擁護するほど政治家は高邁であるべきだと主張するのは無駄である。高遭さを主張する政治家は多分当選を他人に奪われるからである。政治家への道徳的勧告は,賄賂をとるなと露骨に言う以外、何の役にも立たない。

＜寸言＞
選挙公約でも選挙資金でも、嘘をつかなければ当選できないのが現実・現状である以上、「政治家に嘘をついてはいけないと言っても無駄である」ということになります。某元首相などは数え切れない嘘をついてきたために感覚が麻痺しており、嘘つき呼ばわりしても効果がありません。
ここは、竹下登総理（当時）が右翼（稲川会系の右翼団体「日本皇民党」）から（ラウドスピーカーによる）「褒め殺し」（「日本一金儲けが上手い竹下さんを内閣総理大臣にしましょう!」）にあい（連呼され）、非難や中傷ではないため警察に取り締まってもらうことができず困惑した話を参考にするのがよさそうです（大きな話題になりましたので、ウィキペディアの独立記事になっています。）。結局、多額のお金をその右翼に支払って「解決」したそうです。

ところで、「先生と 呼ばれるほどの 馬鹿でなし」という川柳がありますが、この「先生」は不道徳で知性を備えていない政治家を指していると思われます。しかし、私は小さい頃、「先生＝先に生まれた人」と曲解し、「先に生まれたのにこの程度か」という揶揄なのかなと思っていました。いずれにせよ、学校の先生のことではなさそうです。
