Politics requires maneuvering and compromise. Politicians must also be careful with their words at all times in order not to lose political influence due to a verbal misstep. However, telling lies that deceive the public is unacceptable.
Prime Minister Ishiba rose to power on the strength of his reputation for integrity, but cracks are beginning to appear in that image of "purity."
He describes himself as a devout Protestant, like President Trump, but if he believes, even slightly, that "a white lie is acceptable" for someone in the position of Prime Minister, then it would be better for him to step down before the damage spreads any further.
