Bertrand Russell Quotes

In America everybody is of opinion that he has no social superiors, since all men are equal, but he does not admit that he has no social inferiors, for, from the time of Jefferson onward, the doctrine that all men are equal applies only upwards, not downwards.

* a brief comment:
When people are discriminated against or distinguished, many become outraged. However, we often don't realize that we are discriminating or distinguishing others without even knowing them, and even when we do notice, we are usually 'tolerant' toward ourselves in such cases. In response to this reality, there is a big difference between thinking, 'Well, that's just how humans are' and trying to be consciously strict with yourself precisely because of that. Which type are you? Please judge not based on your conscious decision, but from the perspective of how you behave in practice. (Laugh?)
