"Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war" is an invigorating exhortation. Those who are united in believing that the Will of God enjoins certain things which the enemy does not do may be expected to fight the enemy with more energy and gusto, and with less compunction, than if they were not inspired by this belief. In my occasional contacts with those in authority over our armed forces I have found almost all of them deeply religious, and, when I have inquired into the basis of their faith, I have usually found that they think belief in Christianity encouraging to those who have to drop hydrogen bombs.

* a brief comment
'He who believes will be saved (saved by whatever cruelty?)' Equality before the law is guaranteed to its own citizens in accordance with 'democratic principles', but is excluded from application to enemy citizens and other nationals. Three thousand Israelis were slaughtered by Hamas, but even if ten times that number of Gaza civilians were killed by the Israeli army through collateral damage, Christians (and Muslims) are apparently allowed to 'pay back tenfold'.
