One of the difficulties in our begging was that much of our work - that concerning special prisoners or broken families and minority groups, for instance - could not be talked of until it was accomplished, if then, or it would be automatically rendered ineffective. The same was even more true of discussions and schemes concerning international adjustments. When asked, therefore, precisely what we had to show for our work, we had to speak chiefly in vague and general terms, which carried conviction only to the astute and the already cenverted.
