On my way home to England my plane stopped at Singapore and Karachi and Bombay and other places.... Later, I saw from a cutting from The Sydney Morning Herald for August 26th, an account of my speech at Singapore. It reported my saying: 'I think that Britain should withdraw gracefully from Asia, as she did in India, and not wait to be driven out in the event of a war. . . . In this way good-will will be won and a neutral Asian bloc could be formed under the leadership of Pandit Nehru. ..."
