＜寸言＞
　科学技術の急速な発達によって、人類の宇宙進出が現実味を帯びてきました。それは人類の長年の夢であり、多くの人が期待を寄せています。しかし、いいことばかりではありません。
　たとえば、宇宙を舞台にした米中の覇権争いは決して望ましいものではありません。トランプ大統領は2018年にアメリカ宇宙軍（United States Space Force）の創設を発表し、2019年12月20日に正式に設置しました。これに対抗して中国も宇宙軍構想を打ち出し、日本もアメリカに追随する形で、2020年5月に河野防衛大臣（当時）が航空自衛隊内に宇宙作戦隊を創設しました。
　かつては「宇宙の平和利用」が国際的な原則とされていましたが、その精神はすでに形骸化しつつあるように見えます。地球上で繰り返されてきた軍拡競争を、私たちは宇宙でも再現しようとしているように見えます。大国の指導者は、人間の愚かさを地球だけでなく宇宙においても発揮したいのでしょうか。

The rapid development of science and technology has made humanity's advancement into space increasingly realistic. It has long been a dream of humankind, and many people have high hopes for it. However, it does not come without problems.
For example, a U.S.-China power struggle unfolding in outer space is by no means desirable. President Trump announced the creation of the United States Space Force in 2018, and it was formally established on December 20, 2019. In response, China also unveiled its own space force initiative. Japan followed the United States as well: in May 2020, Defense Minister Taro Kono (at the time) established the Space Operations Squadron within the Air Self-Defense Force.
The "peaceful use of outer space" was once considered an international principle, but it now appears to be losing substance. It seems that we are on the verge of reproducing in space the arms races that have repeatedly taken place on Earth. Do the leaders of major powers wish to demonstrate human folly not only on our planet, but in outer space as well?
