私は,オットリン・モレル夫人によって始められ,第一次世界大戦によって継続された,若返り（回春）の過程を経験した。'戦争が人を若返らせる'とは奇妙に思われるかもしれないが,事実,第一次世界大戦は,私の偏見を振り落とし,多くの根本的な問題についてあらためて考え直させてくれた。第一次大戦は,また,私に新しい種類の活動も与えてくれた。この新しい活動に対しては,数理論理学の世界に戻ろうとするときに何時も私につきまとった,あの新鮮みのなさ（味気なさ）を感じなかった。出典： ラッセル『自伝』第２巻第１章「第一次世界大戦」
I underwent a process of rejuvenation, inaugurated by Ottoline Morrell and continued by the War. It may seem curious that the War should rejuvenate anybody, but in fact it shook me out of my prejudices and made me think afresh on a number of fundamental questions. It also provided me with a new kind of activity, for which I did not feel the staleness that beset me whenever I tried to return to mathematical logic.
