記憶－信念
記憶－信念について詳しく調査研究する際に,心に留めておかなければならない要点がいくつかある。第一の要点は,記憶－信念を構成するすべてのものは,いま起こっているのであって,その信念が言及していると言われる過去の時に起こったのではない,ということである。想起される出来事が起こったということは,あるいは,そもそも過去が存在したということでさえ,記憶－信念の存在にとっては論理的に必然的なことではない。(出典： ラッセル『外界の知識』第１章)
In investigating memory-beliefs, there are certain points which must be borne in mind. In the first place, everything constituting a memory-belief is happening now, not in that past time to which the belief is said to refer. It is not logically necessary to the existence of a memory-belief that the event remembered should have occurred, or even that the past should have existed at all.
