自分を過小評価する人は,成功するといつも驚くが,これに対し,自分を過大評価する人は,失敗するといつも驚く。前者の場合の驚きは愉快であるが,後者の場合は不愉快である。(『ラッセル幸福論』第10章「今でも幸福は可能か？」)The man who underestimates himself is perpetually being surprised by success, whereas the man who overestimates himself is just as often surprised by failure. The former kind of surprise is pleasant, the latter unpleasant.
