* "off"も"away"も、両方とも空間的に離れているだけでなく、時間的に離れていることも表す。ただし、"away"は徐々に遠ざかることを表すが、"off"は即座に遠ざかることを表すという違いがある。
His supporters fell away as his popularity declined.
Attendance at my lectures has fallen off considerably.
