* "but for"だけでは、仮定法過去なのか、仮定法過去完了か判断できない。帰結部分が、"would + 原型動詞"ならば仮定法過去となり、"would have + 過去分詞"の形であれば、仮定法過去完了と判断できす。
 なお、「しかし、~のために」という意味になることもあるので、注意。
