★ invoke 引き合いに出す；（法などに）訴える (pp.126-127)
　"-voke" というのは、ラテン語の "voco" から来ていて、「呼び寄せる」「名付ける」「声を出す」などの意味がある（"vocal" も同じ語源）。
　従って、"provoke"（怒らせる、刺激する）、"evoke"（呼び出す）など、いずれも声に関連がある。
　日本占領中、マッカーサー元帥のことを、ある外国人記者が "The God-invoking General" と評したが、演説のなかでよく「神様を引き合いに出す将軍」ということである。
* He has the habit of invoking his father.（オヤジをよく引き合いに出す奴だ。）

　Ｒ英単語・熟語集の用例とはできるだけ重複しないようにしますが、用例が少ない場合はどうしても重複してしまいます。あしからず。
