・・・。決定論の最も強力な味方は物理学であり、物理学は物質のあらゆる運動を規定し、また、それを理論的に予言する可能性の法則をすでに発明した。しかし、奇妙なことに、今日、決定論に反駁する最も強力な論証も、同様に、物理学から導きだされる。
決定論には、一方では科学研究者の手引となる実用的格率になり、他方では宇宙の本質に関する一般理論になるという、両面がある。・・・

We have seen that determinism found its strongest ally in physics, which seemed to have discovered laws regulating all the movements of matter and making them theoretically predictable.
