　今日の全ての人の心に存在しているもっと劇的な例をとってみよう。即ち，あなたが知識に対する無私な欲求から，原子の構造について研究し，たまたま権力を持つ狂人たちの手中に，人類を破滅させる手段（注：原水爆）を渡してしまう（といった例である）。そのようにして，知識の探求は知恵と結びつかない限り有害なものとなるかも知れない。また，全体的視野（comprehensive vision 包括的ヴィジョン）という意味での知恵は，知識の探求をする専門家には必ずしも現存していない。

To take an even more spectacular example, which is in everybody's mind at the present time: You study the composition of the atom from a disinterested desire for knowledge, and incidentally place in the hands of powerful lunatics the means of destroying the human race. In such ways the pursuit of knowledge may becorem harmful unless it is combined with wisdom; and wisdom in the sense of comprehensive vision is not necessarily present in specialists in the pursuit of knowledge.
