現代日本においては、「客観的」で「不偏不党」の歴史教育や報道の名目で、政府批判につながるような学校教育や報道を規制する措置がいろいろ行われている。こういった政府のやり方を国民は許してはならないが、マスコミが政府のコントロール化にある限り、そういった動きをとめることは大変困難だと言わざるをえない。 ラッセルの次の言葉を日頃反芻する必要があるであろう。 「我々の時代において新しいこと(の一つ)は,権力者たち（政府その他大きな権力を持っている人たち）が,自分たちの(様々な)偏見を民衆に押し付けることができる力が増したことである。」 （ What is new in our time is the increased power of the authorities to enforce their prejudices. 出典： Bertrand Russell: Symptoms of George Orwell’s 1984 (1954執筆).
