Hereditary power has given rise to our notion of a "gentleman." ... What survives in the way of admiration of the "gentleman" depends upon inherited wealth, and must rapidly disappear if economic as well as political power ceases to pass from father to son.

Life is unpredictable, much like the saying "Saio ga uma"(塞翁が馬), good fortune can turn to misfortune, and vice versa. Even if someone is born with talent and into a wealthy family, it doesn't necessarily guarantee an easy life. In that sense, the idea that one's future is "secured" is rarely true.
Still, we often use the phrase "a promising future" when referring to those who are seen as fortunate.
Whether male or female, if someone is born into a wealthy family, has a good personality, and is both intelligent and attractive, we are tempted to believe their future is assured, so long as they avoid rare misfortunes like natural disasters, accidents, or man-made crises.
In politics, if one's parent or sibling is an influential politician, they are likely to get by in that world, unless they are entirely unsuited for it.
In the economic world, those whose parents are wealthy are more likely to succeed to some extent if they start a business.
In the entertainment industry, being the child of a celebrity offers a major advantage. Even if audiences begin to feel a bit oversaturated with their frequent TV appearances, they tend to remain on screen as long as they retain a decent fan base.
In this way, even in media-saturated Japan, those who are sometimes mockingly referred to as "elite citizens" enjoy privileged positions that allow them to speak freely on television, supported by their loyal fans.
It could be said that such excess and leeway are tolerated precisely because Japan is a peaceful society.
However, we might need to ask ourselves more carefully whether these "privileged positions" are truly earned through personal effort, or merely handed down through favorable circumstances.
