Another disappointing TV occasion was a BBC discussion of nuclear matters by Mrs Roosevelt, Lord Boothby, Mr Gaitskell, and myself. * a brief comment
If you just think, you are ‘free’ to think whatever you want, but ‘freedom of expression’ has certain limitations and does not mean that public figures are allowed to say whatever they want in public. Not to mention that Elinor Roosevelt is the wife of the current (then) President of the United States. Even if, for her, ‘it is better to ruin mankind than to surrender to communism’, she has no right to send those who do not believe so to their deaths.
President Roosevelt would not have been so stupid, but what would happen if, as a result of cornering the communist countries, they attacked us first, and we thought this expedient and retaliated with nuclear weapons?
