It is clear that ethics considered as a matter of give-and-take is scarcely distinguishable from politics. In this it differs from the more personal ethic which consists in obedience to the will of God or submission to the voice of conscience. One of the problems that an ethical theory must consider is the relation of these two kinds of moral system, and the delimitation of their respective spheres. ...
