Bertrand Russell's Preface to 20 Seiki no Ryosin, 1968.

　長崎の岩松繁俊助教授とわたしとは、数年来、文通をつづけてきました。かれは、わたしの書いたものやバートランド・ラッセル平和財団の諸活動について、まじめにそして体系的に研究してきたひとです(松下注： a serious and methodical student は「まじめにそして体系的に研究してきた人」というより、a"methodical person"というのは「几帳面な人」という意味なので、「真摯で几帳面な研究者」という訳がよいと思われます)。ですから、わたしはこの書物の出版をこころからうれしくおもっています。最近のわれわれの活動を日本でもっともっとよく知ってもらうのに、本書はきっと役立つことでしょう。日本もイギリスも、アメリカの従属国ですから、わたしは、本書の出版がすこしでも有意義であることをこころからふかく念願しています。
　わたしは、印刷に付されるまえに本書を見る機会をもつことができませんでした。しかし、岩松助教授は、かねがねわたしが書いたいろいろな著作を倦むことなく、そして注意ぶかく探し出し、まとめてくれています。その勤勉さと注意ぶかさとが本書にもじゅうぶん反映されているものとわたしは確信してうたがいません。

Professor Shigetoshi Iwamatsu of Nagasaki has corresponded with me for several years. 　I know him as a serious and methodical student of my writings and of the activities of the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation. I therefore warmly welcome this bock, which I trust will help make better known in Japan our activities of recent years. Since Japan and Britain are both satellites of the United States, I earnestly hope that this will be of some value.
Although I did not have the opportunity to see this book before it went to press, I am confident that Professor Iwamatsu's diligence and care in searching out and compiling my various writings is reflected in it.
