　バートランド・ラッセルとの１３回にわたる以下の対話は,1959年春,４日半にわたるテレビのため録画されたものである（注：テレビ「放映」のため,４日半に渡って録画された,と訳すべき）。予め用意した台本は一切使ってないし,取り直しも一切してない。それは卿が自分は俳優ではないと主張されたからである。卿の言葉は,そのとき語られたまま,フィルムに ―それと本書のページに― 記録されている。
　この連続放送全体を通じてインタビューを行なったウッドロウ・ワイアットは,テレビ解説者としてＢＢＣ(英国放送協会)とのあいだにかなりの経験を持つ人である。氏は目下,(レスタシア,ボズワス州選出の)労働党下院議員である。

The following thirteen dialogues with Bertrand Russell were filmed for television during four and one-half days in the spring of 1959. No prepared script was used and no retakes were made, since Lord Russell insisted he was not an actor. His words were recorded on film - and in the pages of this book - as he first spoke them. Woodrow Wyatt, the interviewer throughout the entire series, has had considerable experience with the B.B.C. as a television commentator. He is currently a member of Parliament for the Labour Party.
