流行や趣味
（一時的な）流行追求や趣味は、多くの場合、多分大部分、根本的な幸福の源泉ではなく、現実からの逃避のための手段になっている。即ち、直視するには大きすぎる苦痛を当面の間忘れるための手段になっている。根本的な幸福は、ほかの何にもまして、人(間)や事物に対する'友好的'な関心とも言うべきものに依存しているのである。 (『ラッセル幸福論』)Fads and hobbies, are in many cases, perhaps most, not a source of fundamental happiness, but a means of escape from reality, of forgetting for the moment some pain too difficult to be faced.
