過小評価と過大評価
自分を過小評価する人は、成功するといつも驚くが、これに対し、自已を過大評価する人は、失敗するといつも驚く。前者の場合の驚きは愉快であるが、後者の場合は不愉快である。したがって、不当にうぬぼれないほうが賢明である。ただし、何かやりとげようとするためには控えめ過ぎるのもよくないが。 (『ラッセル幸福論』)The man who underestimates himself is perpetually being surprised by success, whereas the man who overestimates himself is just as often surprised by failure.
