家柄崇拝（上流意識）について
家柄崇拝（上流意識）は,それが誤った価値基準や社会的不平等の容認に結びつく時,重大な悪となる。父親の七光りで特別扱いされる人間は,有益な努力をしようとする正常な動機を失ってしまう。そのような人間は名家に偶然生れたという事実に不当な重要性を与える人生観を身につけがちであり,また,自分が存在するだけで周囲の尊敬を受ける資格があると考えがちである。自分は他の人間よりもかなり優れていると信じるがゆえに,逆に彼らよりずっと劣ることになる。本人に固有な長所にもとづかない差別待遇は全て,人間性に悪影響を与えるために,他に理由がなくてこの理由一つだけしかないとしても,廃止すべきものである。（出典： ラッセル「自伝」）Snobbery becomes a serious evil when it leads to false standards of value and to tolerance of social inequality. The man who is respected merely for being the son of his father loses one of the normal incentives to useful effort. He is likely to develop views of life which attach undue importance to the accident of birth and to think that by merely existing he does enough to command respect. He believes himself rather better than other men and therefore becomes rather worse. All distinctions not based upon intrinsic merit have this bad effect upon character and on this ground, if on no other, deserve to be abolished.
