ねたみ'深い人
通常の人間性の特徴の中で,'ねたみ'が最も不幸なものである。'ねたみ'深い人は,他人に災いを与えたいと思い,とがめられることなく（罰を受けることなく）できるときにはいつでもそうするだけでなく,'ねたみ'によって,自分自身をも不幸にする。'ねたみ'深い人は自分が持っているものから喜びを引き出すかわりに,他人が持っているものから苦しみを引き出す。(『ラッセル幸福論』第６章「ねたみ」)Of all the characteristics of ordinary human nature envy is the most unfortunate; not only does the envious person wish to inflict misfortune and do so whenever he can with impunity, but he is also himself rendered unhappy by envy. Instead of deriving pleasure from what he has, he derives pain from what others have.
