"恐怖"への対処法

 恐怖はどのようなものであれ、直視しないことによってよりひどいものになっていく。考えをよそへそらそうと努力すれば、目をそむけようとしている幽霊の恐ろしさが一段と増してくる。あらゆる種類の恐怖に対処する正しい道は、理性的かつ平静に、しかし非常に集中的に、その恐怖がすっかり身近なものになるまで考えることである。(『ラッセル幸福論』)
